together, we rise

  • "Psychin' Out has provided me with the opportunity to network with students similar to myself. The support and advocacy provided by the platform is unique, and the ability to "give back" in the form of mentoring applicants has been one of the most rewarding professional experiences of my career thus far".

    — Alana Egan, Clinical Psychology Doctoral Student, URI

  • “Psychin' Out has been a wonderful resource throughout the clinical psychology Ph.D. application process. Through the mentorship program, I was paired with an amazing graduate student mentor who volunteered to help me through the application process and spent countless hours helping me network, prep application materials, and provided positive emotional support. I attribute her contributions to my success in obtaining multiple interviews and acceptances and it could not have been done without this platform. I gained insightful knowledge about programs and psychology through information shared by other Psychin Out members. Additionally, I was able to find other members from my future cohort through this community! ”

    — Allison Tobar, Dartmouth College

  • “I first approached Psychin’ Out through their Interview Prep Workshop. I immediately felt in my heart everyone’s stories and experiences navigating PhD applications. I became curious of this community and sought how to get myself more involved. I’ve loved all of it! As an international applicant, I feel like I have received tons of emotional and personal support. I feel very connected to all members, and I am very grateful to be part of this amazing community"!

  • "I was a first round applicant to Ph.D programs and Psychin’ Out was such an amazing resource for camaraderie, support, information, and more! The Summer Boot Camp helped with getting my application materials squared away there was an entire resource hub with templates for letters of interest to POIs, different zoom meetings for perspective students to connect with current students and my favorite feature the mentorship matching! My mentor Kandace helped me outline step by step what I needed to do as I entered application season, met with me 1:1 weekly reviewed my materials and supported me throughout interviews which culminated in my being accepted into my top programs and committing to my best fit"!

Claude Louis, emerging Counseling Psychology PhD candidate, Loyola University Chicago

  • "Psychin' Out has not only served as a formal source of support through application support events but it has also allowed me to connect with my peers, friends, and future collaborators. The first time I ever attended a professional conference, I felt completely alone. Now, with Psychin' Out, it's as easy as sending a message and I can make a new friend, make plans to meet up after conferences in new cities, and feel confident that I have a professional networking space as well as a group of people that works tirelessly to keep my best interests in mind and help me advocate for myself. Every field needs a Psychin' Out! The best part is that this support group will grow with me. It's not just a one and done. I can see myself being a part of this group for many years to come and I'm so excited to have been accepted as a graduate student so that I can contribute to the community as well".

Elayne Zhou, CRC at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine; incoming Clinical Psychology PhD student at the University of Southern California

  • "I would not have been able to get accepted to a Clinical Psychology PhD program WITHOUT the help of Psychin' Out and my spectacular Psychin' Out mentor, Julia Maietta! Julia has gone above and beyond to help me throughout the grad school application process and I am beyond grateful to have her in my life, all thanks to the Psychin Out mentorship program. I could go on and on about how lovely Julia is, but two things that I love the most about her and her mentorship style is her positivity and always being there when I need her. She made one of the most anxiety-inducing moments of my life become less stressful and so much more peaceful. I could rest easy knowing that I could always reach out to Julia for application advice and she would be there, going above and beyond to help me amidst her own busy PhD schedule. I hope to carry on her legacy and inspiration with me as I may one day get the opportunity to mentor a future PhD psychology student. My experience with Julia will greatly influence the way I support and affirm psychology students in the future!"
